Yeah, I'm Really Pissed Off Now

For those of you that buy into BP's BS that the Gulf of Mexico is a "vast ocean" here are some facts: The Atlantic Ocean is approx. 41,105,000 square miles. The Pacific Ocean is 64 million square miles, the Indian Ocean is 17 million square miles, the Gulf of Mexico is 615,000 square miles.

The Gulf of Mexico is basically a lake compared to the oceans that cover the earth. So please people, pay attention to the news, what BP is saying and what they aren't saying. They are now telling us that the oil is magically evaporating thanks to the dispersants, chances are the oil and dispersants are just sinking to the floor of the Gulf. How many mutant fish, turtles, dolphins and sharks will we see in the not so distant future? How many of us will have children born with disabilities because we consumed fish that was reported to be safe but in fact was contaminated by the dispersants that the Gulf is being filled with? No one knows the long term effects of these chemicals, it's all about the Benjamins.

I beg everyone to please thoughtfully consider every petroleum related purchase you make in the future and I'm not saying that I can walk away from gas and oil, especially since my husband drives for a living, but we can all make minor changes to reduce our need for oil. I'm not suggesting anything radical, I can't make major big time changes but I can make small ones and any thoughtful change can make a difference.

Please when you watch the news, take a minute to fact check what the oil industry is reporting.

I think it would be appropriate to require the BP people and all their flunkies including the government regulatory people who were doing what? while this happened, to sit down to a nice big fish dinner, straight from the Gulf.

I've come to the conclusion that you can't believe what corporations have to say as they'll do anything to make themselves look good. And I don't own a car--not something I know most people can get away without having, but I'm all for limiting gas and oil use. What a complete waste of resources and the Gulf of Mexico will never be the same sadly.

Let us roar together!!! It really is sad that this incident happened and we're going to the beach as much as possible, but I too am angry that they are getting away with throwing whatever into the Gulf without considering the longer term ramifications. It's bad enough to pour oil in, but compound that with chemicals. GRRRRR! It's irresponsible and should have been illegal. They need to be stripped of their ability to EVER do this again.

I heard on the news that the company that owned the drilling platform wanted the government to limit their fine. Excuse me????

And it just blows me away that these companies apparently had no worst-case-scenario procedures in place. Totally irresponsible!

I am totally disgusted with the whole industry. When I think of all the damage they have caused and their lies it just makes me ill. Things are just getting worse and worse, scary stuff!!

The BP people are liars and fakers and unfortunately our government has been in collusion with them for many years. We won't know the long term effects of this terrible spill for years to come.

I am the proud wife of a husband who mows our little acre with an old fashioned reel mower, rides his bike to work almost everyday and refuses to use chemicals on our lawn and garden. I am a lazy girl and still drive to work and I don't know if I would be willing to push that mower, but I don't feel the need to use a leaf blower to clean the driveway like my neighbors do. Maybe every little bit will help.

Again... well said!

It is sad that we cannot trust what corporations tell us, nor can we trust what our government tells us. Congress wants to act as though they are somehow "there for us" in the midst of this crisis. Really??? Maybe if our government hadn't been in bed with Big Oil for SOOO many years (BOTH parties, no matter what their spin doctors would try to sell you), we would already have an alternative and usable fuel source (I dunno... Wind? Solar? Hydrogen? Corn???) to crude. You can try to tell me until you're (and by "you" I mean Big Oil and the government) blue in the face that no viable alternative is available... but I'm telling you right now that if they expect us "plebeians" to believe that with the brilliant scientific minds that are out there "no one" can come up with (or has already come up with) something else.. well. It is pathetic.

Yet another example of how our governing body continually forgets who put them in power, and who they are working for.

Ugh. I could go on and on, but I'll restrain myself.

Melissa I think you are so right about small changes. I have been trying to convince my DH we should get wood floors instead of carpet because most carpet is made from petroleum products.

BP frustrates me because they continue to minimize the oil spill. It's just terrible watching the news.

Oh it is awful. When I think of the effects on the ecosystems there it is just appalling. The thing that kills me (I'm in Virginia now but got my biology degree from FSU - my parents are in Jax) - is that the "news" is kind of acting like there's an upside to the drilling in general. I saw a report about all of the fish that make homes on oil rigs. I just cannot express how angry that made me. Use junked cars (like in the Keys) to create artificial reefs if you need them. To report mainstream news about the wonderful benefits of oil rigs is just shameful. It's almost like they are trying to make it seem less awful. You know, like BP is an advertiser or something. Oh, right...

I love your blog because of your beachy themes and stitching so I had to come out of the woodwork.
